Agnes Tawiah
Quarcoopome
Agnes Tawiah Quarcoopome was the tenth child of John Sackey Quarcoopome — a position that meant she grew up in a household already rich with stories, personalities, and the accumulated wisdom of nine elder siblings. By the time Agnes arrived, the Quarcoopome home had become a small institution, with its own customs, its own oral history, and its own powerful sense of what it meant to belong.
Agnes benefited from the protective presence of older siblings while also enjoying the companionship of those near her age. This position in the middle-lower range of the sibling order often produces individuals who are both adaptable and observant — able to absorb lessons from many directions and synthesise them into their own approach to life.
Her marriage to the Tawiah family extended the Quarcoopome legacy into yet another distinguished Ghanaian lineage. Agnes Tawiah Quarcoopome maintained the values of her father's house — respect for elders, care for family, and pride in one's name — while building a new chapter in a new household.
“Observant, adaptable, and quietly wise. Agnes possessed the gift of learning from many teachers and making that learning her own.”
