Mrs Mercy Korkoi Quao
Mercy Quarcoopome, later Mrs Mercy Korkoi Quao, was the fifth child of John Sackey Quarcoopome. In the naming tradition reflected in her married name, the middle name Korkoi suggests Ga heritage — a beautiful expression of the family's deep integration into the coastal community of Accra while maintaining the Yoruba roots that the founding patriarch brought with him.
Growing up in the expansive Quarcoopome household, Mercy was one of many siblings who learned the art of cooperation, mutual support, and shared pride in the family name. With twelve brothers and sisters, the Quarcoopome home was never quiet — it was a training ground in diplomacy, patience, and the understanding that individual achievement and family honour are inseparable.
Her marriage into the Quao family created yet another strand in the rich tapestry of the Quarcoopome extended network. Like her sister Mary, Mercy carried the values of her father's house into a new family line, ensuring that the Quarcoopome legacy of strength, faith, and community service continued to radiate outward.
“Gracious, community-minded, and deeply rooted. Mercy embodied the Ga-Yoruba duality of the Quarcoopome identity, carrying both heritages with pride.”
